Product Hunt Pages, API Docs and Browser Tabs All Show an AI Tool’s Domain
An AI tool’s domain turns up in more technical places than most product names: the Product Hunt launch page, the API base URL in a developer’s code, OAuth consent screens, the browser tab during a long-running job and the sender address on usage alerts. Engineers read several of those places, and they notice when a domain looks improvised, so the address should look stable enough to build on.
Check the .com first. Investors, enterprise buyers and procurement teams still default to it, and owning it stops a squatter or competitor from using it later. The .ai ending is the country code for Anguilla, but it has become the default signal for AI products. It usually costs noticeably more than .com to register and renew, and some registrars sell it in multi-year terms, so budget for the renewal as well as the first year. The .io ending is popular with developer tools, but its future has been questioned since the agreement to transfer sovereignty of the Chagos Islands, so treat it as a riskier choice for a long-lived product. The .dev and .app endings only load over HTTPS, which suits API products, and .tech exists for general technology brands.
Country endings such as .in or .co.uk suit AI services sold into one market, like a tool that drafts GST invoices or UK tenancy letters.
Leave model providers out of the domain. Building on GPT or a model family’s name ties you to one vendor and can break that company’s brand rules. A coined word, or a verb that describes the job such as drafting or sorting, keeps working when you switch models.
Keep the name short enough to sit in an API endpoint without wrapping in documentation, and test whether people spell it right after hearing it once on a demo call. Check the handle on X, LinkedIn, GitHub and Hugging Face before you buy.
Domains for AI Tools Grouped by the Job the Product Does
The 200 domains below are grouped by the job the product does, with one group of short coined names on the .ai ending. Click a logo to copy the domain, and treat each one as an idea to check with a registrar and a trademark search before you buy.

Treat the Domain as Infrastructure from DNS to Email Authentication
Search the shortlist with a registrar and confirm on ICANN Lookup who holds any taken name. If you can, register the .com alongside the .ai and redirect one to the other. Turn on registrar lock and two-factor login, because whoever controls the DNS of an API product can intercept its traffic, which makes AI domains a target for hijacking.
Plan DNS early. Most AI tools end up with subdomains such as api, app, docs and status, so choose a DNS provider that makes records easy to manage and supports DNSSEC. Host the marketing site apart from the inference servers so a spike in model traffic does not take the homepage down. Every subdomain needs SSL, and on .dev or .app it is mandatory.
Set up professional email and configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC before you send usage alerts or password resets. Many AI startups find their sign-up emails sitting in spam because these records were missing.
Search the USPTO database and Intellectual Property India in class 9 and class 42, which cover software. AI names collide often because so many teams reach for the same words, so search close spellings as well as the exact name.
Register the company before you take payments or sign enterprise contracts. Procurement teams ask for a legal entity, and it helps when that entity also owns the domain. Claim the handle on X, LinkedIn, GitHub and Discord in the same sitting.

Model Maker Names and Other AI Domain Pitfalls
- Model-maker names. Domains built on GPT, Claude, Gemini or Llama risk takedown requests and tie the product to one vendor.
- Hype words. Terms like agi or sentient in a domain make enterprise buyers sceptical and can attract attention from advertising regulators.
- Premium pricing on short .ai names. Many short .ai names are listed as premium, with renewals priced far above the standard rate; read the renewal line before you buy.
- Single-task names that block a pivot. A domain naming one narrow job, such as summarising PDFs, becomes awkward when the product grows; a brandable root with task words in subdomains ages better.
- Expired AI domains with spam history. Many early AI wrapper sites were dropped and later reused for spam, so check archived snapshots and backlinks before buying one.
- Hyphens and digits. A name like ai-writer-247 fails the demo-call test and looks like a scam in an inbox.
- Unclaimed typos. Once you have paying users, phishers may register obvious misspellings of your domain, so buy the closest typos and redirect them.
