Personal Brand Domain Names: 200 Ideas Built Around Your Name

Two hundred personal brand domain ideas with logo previews, and the steps for turning one into a site and email address.

Using Your Own Name as a Domain

Your own name is the obvious first try, and for many people the .com is already gone. Common names like “Sarah Cole” or “Arjun Mehta” were registered years ago, often by someone who never built a site. That still leaves plenty of options that keep your name front and center.

The usual fixes, in rough order of preference:

  • Add a middle initial or full middle name: “sarahjcole.com” is short and still clearly you.
  • Add a friendly prefix: “hello”, “meet”, “hey” or “with” in front of your first name, such as “meetpriya.com” or “workwithfinn.com”.
  • Add what you do: “designbyelena.com” or “copywriterben.com” tells a visitor your trade before they click.
  • Switch the ending: .me, .bio, .page, .name and .studio are real endings built for personal sites. They cost more each year than a .com in some cases, so check renewals.

If you work mainly with clients in one country, the local ending reads well: .in for India, .co.uk for the UK, .ca for Canada, .com.au for Australia. A coach in Pune with Indian clients loses little by using .in, and the matching .com may still be free.

Some people pick a brand name in place of their own name. That suits a newsletter, studio or course you may one day sell or hand to a team. A personal name is harder to sell later but builds trust faster for coaches, consultants and freelancers.

Keep it under 15 characters before the ending where you can. Say it aloud as you would on a podcast or at the end of a talk: “find me at ___”. If listeners have to ask how to spell your surname, add a second, easier domain that redirects to the main one.

Match the handles. A personal brand lives on LinkedIn, Instagram, X or YouTube as much as on the site, so try to claim the same name on each.

Turning a Name Domain Into a Portfolio and Inbox

Search the domain in ICANN Lookup or at a registrar. If your name is registered but parked, the lookup shows who to contact, though owners of personal-name domains often ask high prices. Our domain name generator checks your name across several endings at once. Buy the main version plus one common misspelling.

For hosting, a one-page site builder is enough at the start: a photo, a short bio, three examples of your work and a contact form. If you are showing design, writing or photography, the portfolio website domain ideas page covers that angle in more depth.

Set up professional email on the domain, such as hello@yourname.com. It looks better on a proposal than a free mailbox and stays with you if you change providers. Confirm the SSL certificate is active so the contact form shows the padlock.

Run a trademark search on any brand name you choose over your own name. Use the USPTO in the US, the UK IPO or IP India. Your own name is rarely a problem, but a catchy brand name can clash with a registered mark.

Registration depends on how you trade. In the US you can freelance under your own name without filing, and a DBA covers a different trading name. UK sole traders register with HMRC for Self Assessment. In India you can work as a sole proprietor, while an LLP or one person company needs MCA name approval. If you want a studio name, our business name generator and the business name ideas hub are a good start.

Claim matching handles on LinkedIn, Instagram, X and YouTube. Then work out your rates with the freelance hourly rate calculator and send your first bill from the invoice generator.

Personal Domains That Age Badly

  • Hyphens between first and last name. “sarah-cole.com” sends mistyped traffic to whoever owns the version without the hyphen.
  • Numbers and birth years. “priya1990.com” looks like an email handle and dates you.
  • A famous namesake. If your name matches a celebrity or a brand, visitors land on your site by mistake and leave, and the other party may complain about the domain.
  • Expired name domains with a past. Check a web archive before buying a lapsed personal-name domain. It may have hosted spam or someone else’s embarrassing blog.
  • Renewal price traps. Some personal endings are cheap in year one and much dearer at renewal. Check before you print it on cards.
  • Niche words you may drop. “keto-coach” in the domain gets awkward when you broaden into general nutrition.
