Hair Salon Names: 200 Ideas With Logo Previews

Two hundred hair salon name ideas in five styles, with advice on testing a shortlist and registering the name.

How Stylists Choose a Salon Name That Lasts

Most new salon clients find you through Instagram or a booking app before they ever see the shopfront. That means the name has to work as a handle, a booking-app tile and a sign at the same time. Short names of one or two words do all three jobs.

Clients choose a salon on two things: whether the stylists can do their hair type, and the price level. A name like Curl Theory tells someone with textured hair that you know curls. Maison Ardent hints at higher prices. A pun name such as Shear Genius suggests a friendly, mid-priced place. Match the tone to the price list you will actually charge.

Avoid the most common salon words unless you pair them with something unusual. Shear, Mane, Locks, Strands, Tease and Chic each appear dozens of times in any large city, and Google Maps will show yours next to the others.

Practical checks for a salon name:

  • Booking apps and Instagram bios cut the name at around 20 to 30 characters. Test it in the app you plan to use.
  • A projecting sign on a high street has room for about 10 to 14 large letters.
  • Product labels and gift vouchers need a name that reads in small print.
  • Your Google Business Profile name must match the sign. Adding “Balayage Specialist” to the listing name breaks the rules.

Using your own first name is common, and it builds loyalty around you as the senior stylist. It makes the salon harder to sell later and can confuse clients who book other stylists. If you plan more chairs or a second site, choose a brand name and put your own name on the stylist profile.

Shortlist four names and run each through a quick test. Type the handle into Instagram and TikTok and see what comes up. Read the name aloud as a receptionist would on the phone. Show the shortlist to ten existing clients and ask what they think a cut would cost there. If the answers are far from your prices, the name is wrong for you.

Booking Pages, Signs and Registration for a New Salon

Grab the domain while you still have the name in your head. The domain name generator checks your words across .com and country endings at once. If the short version is taken, adding “hair” or your town to the domain usually works, and our domain name ideas pages show more patterns.

Search the trademark register in Class 44, which covers hairdressing. If you plan to sell your own shampoo or styling products, search Class 3 as well.

Register the business in the country where you trade:

  • India: for an LLP or private limited company, the name must be approved by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs through the MCA portal. See our guide to registering an LLP in India.
  • US: form an LLC through your state, or file a DBA if you work as a sole proprietor under a salon name. Your state cosmetology board will also license the salon premises separately.
  • UK: Companies House rejects company names that match an existing one or use restricted words without approval. A self-employed stylist renting a chair can trade under a salon name without registering it.

Claim the Instagram and TikTok handles before you announce. Salons win most new clients from before-and-after posts, and a handle that differs from the sign makes tagging awkward.

Set up the Google Business Profile with the salon name exactly as it appears outside, your booking link and photos of real work. Add every service with a price so the listing shows up for searches like “balayage near me”.

Then order the logo, window vinyl and gift voucher design. Set up an invoice template for bridal parties and product sales, and put a QR code at the till that opens your review page. The business name generator is there if you want a wider list from your own words.

Salon Name Puns That Age Badly

  • Puns that age badly. A joke that is funny on day one can feel tired after five years of answering the phone with it.
  • Names tied to one trend. A salon named after a cut or colour fashion looks dated when the trend passes.
  • Your first name alone. Clients may refuse to see other stylists, and the business is harder to sell.
  • Accents and special letters. Characters like é break in some booking systems and email addresses.
  • Taken handles. If the Instagram name is gone and the other account is active, pick another name.
  • Double meanings. Words like “Strip” or “Wax” next to the wrong second word can read badly. Ask someone outside the trade to read the name cold.
