Restaurant Names: 200 Ideas With Logo Previews

Two hundred restaurant name ideas shown as logos, with advice on testing and registering the name you pick.

Finding a Restaurant Name That Matches the Menu

A diner scrolling Google Maps or a delivery app gives your name a second or two. In that time it has to hint at the cuisine and roughly what the bill will be. Nonna’s Table promises Italian home cooking at a fair price. Ember & Salt suggests a grill where dinner for two runs higher.

Some restaurant words have been used so often that diners skim past them:

  • Kitchen and Eatery sit on thousands of listings and add nothing on their own.
  • Masala and Tandoor names crowd every Indian food street, so a search for yours returns ten rivals.
  • Fusion tells guests nothing about what will arrive on the plate.
  • Delight and Express sound like a food court counter.

Picture the name over a narrow shopfront. A 10-foot fascia sign with a 22-letter name ends up with letters too small to read from across the road. The same name repeats on menus, receipts, takeaway bags and the delivery app tile, where long names get cut off on a phone screen. A one- or two-word name also fits the small square icon of an ordering app if you build one later.

Google does not allow extra keywords in a Business Profile name. Ember & Salt cannot appear on Maps as Ember & Salt Best Steakhouse Downtown. If you want the cuisine to show in search, put it in the real name from day one, as in Ember & Salt Grill.

A street or neighborhood name works for a single site with loyal regulars. If you plan a second outlet in another city, or a bottled sauce line, pick something that travels.

Test your shortlist before you pay a sign maker:

  • Say each name over the phone and ask the listener to spell it back. Bookings still come in by phone.
  • Search each name on Google Maps within 10 km and on the delivery apps in your city.
  • Print each one on a mock menu and a bag sticker at actual size.
  • Ask a handful of diners from your target crowd which place they would book for a birthday dinner.

Licences, Listings and Signage After Naming Your Restaurant

Check the domain first. A restaurant without its own site sends every diner to a delivery app that takes a commission on each order. Try the .com and your country ending in the domain name generator, and look through our restaurant website domain ideas if the exact match is gone.

Search the trademark register before anything goes to print. In the US that means the USPTO search; the UK and India each run their own public search. Look at class 43, which covers restaurant and catering services, and also check for near matches in spelling.

Then register the name with the right body for your country:

  • India: an LLP or private company name goes through approval on the MCA portal before incorporation. The Registrar turns down names that are too close to an existing company or a registered trademark. Our guide to registering an LLP in India covers the forms.
  • US: an LLC or corporation registers its name with the state. If you trade under a name that differs from the legal entity, file a DBA (an assumed name) with the state or county, depending on where you operate.
  • UK: Companies House will not accept a name that is the same as one already on its register, and words such as Royal or Institute need extra permission. A sole trader does not register a name but still must not pass off as another business.

Claim the Instagram and TikTok handles the same day. Restaurants sell through photos, and a handle with extra underscores looks like a copy account.

Create the Google Business Profile once the sign is up. Google may ask for a short verification video that shows the signage and the kitchen.

Order the logo before the fascia sign and the menu print run so the colors match. Put a table QR code that opens the menu, made with the QR code generator, and bill catering orders with the invoice generator. If none of the names above fit, the business name generator builds fresh ideas from your own keywords.

Restaurant Names That Diners Forget or Misspell

  • A dish you might drop. Calling the place Pizza Point makes it awkward to add a grill menu next year.
  • A name one letter away from a chain. It invites a legal letter and sends diners searching for you to the wrong place.
  • A name staff must spell on every phone booking. Guests mishear it and type it wrong on Maps.
  • A rude or odd meaning in another language spoken in your area. Ask a few people from different backgrounds before you commit.
  • A long name that delivery apps cut off. The visible half may read as something else.
  • A street name when your lease is short. If you move two blocks away, Station Road Grill turns into a puzzle.
  • A joke name on a $90 tasting menu. Guests paying that much expect a name with some weight.
